About CP1919
An archive of
an image escaping.
CP1919 is an independent, growing collection of the places the Unknown Pleasures graphic has appeared. It connects the design’s history with the objects, fashion, remixes, and internet culture that keep giving it new lives.
What gets included?
A find needs a recognisable connection to the graphic and a source that shows the appearance. We link to original makers and primary records wherever possible. When only a secondary source survives, we name it.
The visual collection contains 222 finds. It is a starting point, not a claim to have catalogued the entire internet. Unknown dates, uncertain makers, and digital mockups are labelled. Historical product entries do not imply current availability.
Who made the famous image?
Jocelyn Bell Burnell discovered the pulsar. Harold Craft created the stacked scientific plot. Peter Saville adapted the diagram for Joy Division’s sleeve. Those are separate contributions, and each deserves its credit.

Joy Division Central (JoyDiv.org) is a long-running independent resource for the band’s discography, concerts, recordings, and history. It is a useful companion to this archive of the image.
